Campur Sari

year: 1996

A work combining two musical traditions. The Indonesian musician plays a gender metalophone, sings and plays a drum, while the string quartet draws out this material into a more familiar sound world. This work was written for the New Zealand String Quartet with soloist Joko Susilo, and premiered at the 1996 Wellington International Festival of the Arts.
